How to make applications available for volunteer signups.

Why open an application?

Opening (or publishing) an application allows volunteers to see and apply to roles or projects. By opening an application, you make it visible and accessible to anyone with the link or access to your hub, enabling you to collect and review applications from potential volunteers. Think of it as officially “turning on” the application for active recruitment. When you open or close an application, you control its visibility to volunteers on your hub and manage who can sign up using the apply button.

How to open an application.

To open (or publish) an application, start by going to the Details page of the application. Scroll down to the Approvals section to ensure your settings are set as desired, either for reviewing applicants or auto-accepting them. Once your settings and page design are ready, go to the top right corner and click the Application Closed button. From the dropdown, select Open Application and set the dates for when you wish to open and close the application. Once done, this will make it visible to volunteers so they can start applying online.

This will create a shareable link to the application. Depending on your visibility settings, it will appear in the list of Applications on your hub.

If you haven’t added a photo and description to your Applications category on the Find Opportunities page of your hub yet, be sure to do so. This helps make it easier for people to find and connect with your application. To make these updates, go to Hub Editor > Opportunities. If you'd like to rename this category from "Applications" to something else, go to Hub Editor > Details.

How to close an application.

To close an application and stop accepting new signups, follow the steps you used to open it. Click the button in the top right labeled Application Open, then choose Close Application from the dropdown. This will remove the application from volunteer searches in your hub so that no new applications can be submitted. However, you can still review and manage existing applicants or qualified volunteers. If anyone tries to access the application link directly, they’ll see that the Apply button now reads Closed.

Common questions.

If you've opened an application but don't see it listed on your hub, it’s likely because the visibility is set to "Link Only." To fix this, open the application, go to the Details tab at the top, and scroll down to the Visibility section to check and adjust the settings. If you are still having trouble, contact customer support using the inapp chat.
