Why set a signup limit?
Setting a signup limit helps ensure that volunteers aren’t over-committing or under-committing to shifts or events. It allows you to:
Balance demand: Prevent too many volunteers from signing up for a single shift or event, ensuring a fair distribution.
Manage capacity: Make sure you don’t exceed the number of spots available or overwhelm organizers with too many people.
Encourage commitment: Volunteers are more likely to stick to their sign-ups when they’re limited, helping you maintain reliable attendance.
It’s all about creating a smoother, more organized volunteer experience.
How to set a signup limit.
You can set a signup limit to control how many shifts or events a volunteer can sign up for in a week, month, or year. Just head to Settings > Preferences and look for Signup Limit. By default, it’s set to 100 spots per month, which basically means there’s no limit.
You can change this to whatever works best for your organization, and pick a time frame that makes sense. The limit includes shifts and events in the requested, confirmed, and waitlisted statuses, so it helps make sure one volunteer doesn’t take up all the spots, giving others a fair chance to sign up. Once you’ve made your changes, don’t forget to click Save at the bottom.
This setting applies to all activities, which is why it’s in the main preferences section. If you think volunteers will hit this limit often, set clear expectations from the start. Inform them during onboarding or training so they understand the reason behind the limit. Without this, they might get frustrated if they’re blocked from signing up for more shifts.
