Understanding Always Show

Learn how Timecounts reduces form fatigue by remembering answers volunteers have already provided.

How Always Show works

One of the ways Timecounts creates a better volunteer experience is by remembering information volunteers have already provided.

By default, if a volunteer has previously answered a Profile Field, that question will be automatically hidden on future forms. This means volunteers only need to answer new questions rather than repeatedly entering the same information.

For example, if a volunteer has already provided their phone number, address, and date of birth, and you later add a new question about skills, they will only be asked to answer the new skills question when they encounter the form again.

This approach reduces form fatigue, improves completion rates, and makes signing up for future opportunities faster and easier for volunteers.

When should I use Always Show?

In some cases, you may want a question to appear every time a volunteer completes a form, even if they have answered it before.

To do this, open the field in the form builder and enable Always Show at the bottom of the field settings.

Questions that may change over time are often good candidates for Always Show, including:

  • Availability

  • Dietary requirements

  • Transportation needs

  • Current certifications or qualifications

  • Emergency contact information

Best practices

We recommend using Always Show sparingly.

Most profile information only needs to be collected once. Repeatedly asking volunteers the same questions can create unnecessary friction and slow down the signup process.

As a general rule, if the answer is unlikely to change, leave Always Show disabled. If the answer may change regularly, consider enabling it.
