July was a busy one! This month we prioritized some of your most-requested features and rolled out a number of improvements across Timecounts.
If you’re a Pro customer, you’ll definitely want to read through this one. We’ve made some significant updates to the Kiosk, filtering, onboarding, volunteer access, and how you track and report on volunteer time.
Restrict Events with Applications
One of our most-loved Pro features is now available across all volunteer opportunity types. If you've been using Applications to restrict positions in Schedules, you can now use the same workflow with Events, Repeating Events, and Events with Shifts.
Simply link an Application, qualify your volunteers, and only those who qualify will be able to sign up. Whether you're managing training, certifications, location-specific onboarding, or other requirements, you now have one consistent way to make sure the right volunteers can sign up for the right opportunities.

Walk-ins are now available in the Kiosk
Active volunteers no longer need to be signed up in advance to use the Kiosk. With walk-ins enabled, they can choose from available positions and check themselves in when they arrive, making it easier to welcome drop-in volunteers while still tracking their time automatically. If you plan to use walk-ins, be sure to review the setup instructions before launching your Kiosk.
We’ve also made a few improvements to make checking in and out simpler for volunteers. They now start by searching for their name, so there’s one less step and Timecounts can show them the right check-in or check-out options. If they don’t have anything available, they’ll now see a helpful message instead of simply not finding their name.
For admins, we’ve updated and simplified the Kiosk Editor to support these changes and make your Kiosk easier to set up. We’ve also made the custom titles and messages templates for the Kiosk clearer, so you can better communicate with volunteers as they check-in and out.

More ways to manage volunteer time in Track
Walk-in hours now have their own Walk-In Time tab, keeping them separate from Scheduled Time and Logged Time. We’ve also added a new Incomplete status for walk-ins where a volunteer checked in but didn’t check out, making these much easier to spot and follow up on.
Under Details, you’ll find new options for choosing how walk-in time is credited. We’ve also streamlined the Logged Time settings and added more options for controlling what volunteers can log, including whether they can enter any activity or only log time for specific applications or positions.
Walk-in time is now included in Reports
We’ve updated Reports to include Walk-In Time, giving you a dedicated view of hours recorded through the Kiosk. Walk-in hours are also included in your Total Hours reports, so you get a complete picture of volunteer time across your organization.
You may notice a couple of other name changes while you’re there. Ad Hoc is now Logged Time, and Positions is now Shift Positions, bringing the language in Reports in line with what you see throughout Timecounts.
A simpler way to manage volunteer onboarding
We’ve updated how admins manage onboarding, with a simpler setup and a new dedicated home under Settings. Moving these options out of the Hub Editor also makes the Details page much more streamlined and focused on customizing your Hub.
It’s now easier to choose how new volunteers get started, whether they need to complete onboarding, can go directly to opportunities, or if new registrations are temporarily closed. If you require onboarding, you can manage your form, approval settings, confirmation message, and welcome email all in one place.
These changes also lay the groundwork for more onboarding options in the future, particularly for organizations with more complex screening and approval requirements.
Filter volunteers using custom profile fields
Pro customers now have even more ways to find the right volunteers in the Directory. We’ve added new filters for No Show and Skills, and you can now turn your own custom profile fields into filters.
This means you no longer need to create tags just to search by information you already collect on volunteer profiles. Whether it’s a language, interest, neighbourhood, t-shirt size, or another custom field, you can filter your Directory using the information you already have.
To get started, go to Settings > Profile Fields and check Filterable next to any field you want to use. It will then be available as a filter in the Directory.
